先しゅうまつはとても楽しいかった。私はあやかちゃんにあそんだつもりだったけどあやかちゃんのお父さんはびょうきでしたから、会わない。日がさがほしで三宮のラフトで日がさを買った。くろいだ。
The above is mostly a lie. It's the regular speech I have to make up to give to my teacher everyday.
This past weekend was fun. I spent a lot of time in Osaka. I hung out with Ayaka and Jim and Brian mostly. I'm quite tired for some reason, and I can't seem to remember what I did. Homework and running around probably occupied most of that time. Ayaka taught me basic kendo when we caught Jim practicing (poorly) in the lounge. Apparently I'm a natural. She helped him, too.
I've been trying lots of new foods. I don't like pork here any more than I do at home, though. I like chickenkatsu instead of tonkatsu (think tasty breaded chicken and pork). We had okinomiyaki last night- vegetable pancakes.
My successful purchase for the weekend was a parasol. It's called a higasa. Hi means sun and kasa means umbrella, so quite literally it means sun umbrella. They're very popular here because it's so hot. I've been looking for one for a while. Most people carry black ones, so I just copied. It's nice. Pictures later.

Gloria,
So what does your lie mean in English?
You can't remembers things probably because you're not getting enough sleep and probably are still not used to the time change.
So what did you do in Osaka?
Is it famous for anything in particular?
What time do stores close there?
What do you do in the evening?
Mom, Ben and I spent Father's Day at a restaurant in Schaumberg?
It was quite tasty.
Tomorrow, mom and I drive to St. Louis to our conference on concussions.
We'll be back on Tuesday.
Well, that's all for now.
Love,
Dad
HI Gloria,
It probably takes awhile to get used to the time change. I cant wait to see the higasa. I suppose you could even use it at the beach.
Did you like the vegetable pancakes?
Osaka was where my Japanese friend lived with his family. His dad was military and mom was Japanese. Ask Ayaka about the little bird cage and bird his mom used to have.Is it a common practice there?
Get some rest-you are seeing and doing so many new things-it can be exhausting. Have fun! Miss you!
We will be in St Louis, Mon-Wed. I have my cell phone and computer if you need us. My new class starts tomorrow.
Love, Mom
